Be;Me

Be;Me Programme

Are you looking for a space to connect with community and celebrate culture?

Be;Me is a cultural and community based programme that looks to use art, creativity and connection as a catalyst for improved sense of self and well being.

What is Be;Me?

3.png

Be;Me is a youth-led celebration of culture which blends art, self exploration, community and connection as a catalyst to engaging with mental health and sense of wellbeing.

Be;Me empowers children, young people, families and adults to tell their story in their own way with a focus on ethnic minority and margianlised communities to tell their story in their own way and engage in others' realities through artistic expression.

The project uses creative expression including canvas art, sculptures, dance, visual art, storytelling, music and virtual reality experiences. Creative expression is an evidence-based tool to build self esteem, promote cultural pride and reduce risk of serious mental health conditions by engaging with empathy and storytelling from diverse perspectives.

Our Be;Me programme also reimagines how and where art is accessed, bringing exhibitions and workshops into neutral, community spaces to engage audiences often excluded from traditional galleries due to financial, cultural or class barriers.

We bring Free To Be Me into schools and community spaces, creating spaces full of:

'I have never seen you two so engaged in something before' - she spoke to the facilitator about one of the young people being suspended from school often for not taking part in lessons but she and the other young person were very engaged in the Exam Stress session.'

- Accompanying Adult / Referring Staff Member

Your cultural identity can shape how you see the world. It can support you, but also bring pressure. When we make space to talk about it, we make space for growth, healing, and belonging.
