DIRECTION

Having realistic goals that allow you to achieve them and grow as a person allows you to develop mental resilience when life gets difficult, by giving you a sense of purpose.

WHY SET GOALS?

ORGANISATION

Goal setting gives you short-term motivation and long term vision of a bigger picture. It helps you organise your time and resources to help you achieve the most if your life.

GIVES A SENSE OF PRIDE

By setting goals, you can see your progress whilst progressing on your journey and feel proud once you have achieved your goals!

The people.

Have specific goals.

When you set a goal, try to think about what you would like to accomplish. A good idea would be to think of the "w" questions:

- Who - Who needs to be involved to achieve the goal (this may be more relevant when working on a group project)?

- What - What are you trying to achieve?

Have specific goals, cont.

- When - (check the "time-bound" section) - Where - this may or may not always apply, but if there is a relevant event or location, you can mention it here! - Why - Why are you setting this goal? Is it to learn a new skill or to develop something that you already have?

Have measurable goals.

Having metrics makes a goal more tangible as it allows you to monitor you progress more easily. It also allows you to set milestones and creating smaller tasks that will allow you to move closer to a bigger goal.

Have achievable goals.

Having goals that are challenging enough to push you just outside your comfort zone but not being too difficult will give the right amount of motivation to achieve your goals. In addition, you will develop the right amount of skills needed in order to make bigger goals later on!

Have relevant goals.

When it comes to thinking about the big picture; think why are you setting this goal right now? Having a goal that is in alignment with your bigger, broader goals will help keep you motivated when things get difficult.

Have time-bound goals.

Setting a time frame that you want to achieve your goals in or setting a deadline helps your fit your goal into you bigger life picture and increases your motivation to help achieve them too. Doing so will also allow you to stay on track within that designated timeframe.
